B2B VAT Compliance
Correct Shopware 6 VAT logic for B2B customers without a valid EU VAT ID — apply seller origin-country rates and zero-rate non-EU deliveries automatically.
The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.
In short
- Eliminate incorrect VAT charges on B2B orders where no valid EU VAT ID is present
- Automatically zero-rate deliveries to non-EU countries, removing tax liability that should never have been applied
- Protect your business from VAT compliance risk caused by Shopware's default destination-country logic
Why this extension
Without the plugin
Shopware 6 applies destination-country VAT rates by default — even when a B2B customer cannot provide a valid EU VAT identification number. Under EU cross-border VAT rules, intra-EU B2B transactions without a verified VAT ID should be taxed at the seller’s origin-country rate, not the buyer’s delivery-country rate. For deliveries outside the EU, VAT should not be charged at all. Without a correction, your store silently generates incorrect invoices on every affected order.
With the plugin
This extension for Shopware 6 intercepts the tax calculation pipeline and applies the legally correct VAT logic in both scenarios: it substitutes the seller’s origin-country rate for unverified intra-EU B2B orders, and it zeroes out VAT entirely for non-EU deliveries. The rule engine is fully configurable, so you can map specific countries, customer groups, and tax classes to the appropriate treatment without writing a single line of code.
How it would work
- Define Your Origin Country and Tax Rate
In the plugin settings, specify your seller country and map it to the corresponding tax rate. This rate will be applied to all intra-EU B2B orders where the buyer cannot provide a valid VAT ID.
- Configure Geographic Rules
Use the rule builder to group countries into EU and non-EU zones, or define individual country-level overrides. Assign each rule to the relevant customer groups and tax classes in your Shopware 6 store.
- Plugin Intercepts Tax Calculation at Checkout
When a B2B customer proceeds to checkout, the plugin evaluates their VAT ID status and delivery address against your configured rules. If the customer lacks a verified EU VAT ID, the origin-country rate is applied for intra-EU orders. If the delivery address falls outside the EU, the VAT rate is set to zero automatically — before the order is placed and the invoice is generated.
- Review the Tax Audit Log
Each order records which rule was matched and what tax rate was applied. Your finance team can review these decisions directly in the Shopware 6 administration panel without relying on external documentation.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ready plugin I can buy?
No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.
Does this plugin replace Shopware's native tax rules entirely?
No. The plugin adds a correction layer on top of Shopware's existing tax calculation pipeline. Standard tax rules continue to apply for B2C customers and verified B2B customers with valid EU VAT IDs. Only the specific scenarios — unverified intra-EU B2B and non-EU deliveries — are intercepted and corrected.
What happens if a customer provides a VAT ID that fails validation?
If the VAT ID cannot be verified (for example, it fails the VIES check), the plugin treats the customer as not having a valid VAT ID and applies origin-country VAT accordingly. You can configure whether failed validations trigger a storefront notification or proceed silently.
Can I configure rules for specific countries rather than the entire EU or non-EU zone?
Yes. The rule engine supports individual country assignments as well as pre-built zone groups. You can create exceptions for specific markets — for example, applying a different handling for countries with special VAT status such as Switzerland, Norway, or UK.
Is this plugin suitable for stores selling in multiple EU countries simultaneously?
Yes. The plugin is designed for multi-channel and multi-market Shopware 6 stores. You can define separate rule sets per sales channel, allowing each channel to reflect the correct seller-country origin rate independently.
Which Shopware versions are supported?
We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.
How long does it take?
Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
