Category Layout Element Visibility

Conditionally show or hide Shopping Experiences elements per category in Shopware 6 — no layout duplication, no custom CSS hacks required.

This is a concept, built for your shop

The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.

In short

  • Eliminate layout duplication by managing element visibility from a single shared template
  • Reduce editorial workload — category managers control visibility without developer involvement
  • Improve storefront quality by preventing empty or content-less elements from appearing to customers

Why this extension

Without the plugin

Large Shopware 6 stores frequently share layout templates across dozens or hundreds of categories through Shopping Experiences. The problem arises when certain layout elements — such as FAQ accordions, promotional banners, or feature highlight blocks — only make sense for some of those categories. Without content to populate them, empty elements create a poor customer experience and a cluttered storefront. Shopware 6 does not provide a native mechanism to conditionally show or hide individual layout blocks at the category level, leaving store operators with manual workarounds that do not scale.

With the plugin

The Category Layout Element Visibility plugin solves this directly. It adds a dedicated visibility management section to the category administration panel in Shopware 6, where editors can control exactly which layout elements are shown or hidden for each individual category. The extension supports both lightweight CSS-based hiding and full render suppression for performance-critical use cases — all without duplicating layouts or writing a single line of custom code.

How it would work

  1. Assign Your Shared Layout

Build your Shopping Experiences layout as you normally would in Shopware 6 and assign it to any number of categories. No changes to your existing layout workflow are required.

  2. Configure Element Visibility per Category

Open any category in the Shopware 6 administration. The plugin adds a new "Layout Element Visibility" section to the category panel. Each layout element is listed with a toggle. Switch elements off for categories where they should not appear.

  3. Choose the Suppression Method

For each hidden element, select whether to apply CSS-based hiding (fast, no cache flush needed) or full render suppression (recommended for performance-sensitive pages, removes the element from the HTML output entirely).

  4. Publish and Review

Save the category settings. Hidden elements are immediately suppressed for the selected category while remaining fully visible on all other categories that use the same layout. No layout duplication, no developer handoff required.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ready plugin I can buy?

No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.

Will hiding an element in one category affect other categories using the same layout?

No. Visibility settings are stored per category and are completely independent. Hiding an FAQ accordion in one category has no effect on any other category that uses the same Shopping Experiences layout.

What is the difference between CSS hiding and full render suppression?

CSS hiding applies a display:none style, which keeps the element in the HTML source but removes it from view. Full render suppression prevents the element from being rendered server-side entirely, which is better for page performance and reduces page weight — recommended for elements with heavy content or large media assets.

Do I need to duplicate or modify my existing Shopping Experiences layouts?

No. The plugin works with your existing layouts as-is. There is no need to create separate layout variants for different category groups — that is precisely the problem this extension eliminates.

Is this plugin suitable for agency use across multiple client stores?

Yes. The plugin is designed with agencies in mind. It integrates cleanly into the native Shopware 6 administration without custom theming dependencies, making it straightforward to deploy and hand off to client editorial teams.

Which Shopware versions are supported?

We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.

How long does it take?

Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
