Cut-by-Metre Cart Manager
Enable cut-by-metre sales in Shopware 6. Customers add multiple custom-length cuts as separate cart lines, with configurable units, limits, and stock management.
The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.
In short
- Eliminate the need for pre-defined length variants — customers specify any dimension they need
- Increase average order value by making it easy to add multiple cuts in a single session
- Reduce order errors and customer service queries with clear per-cut line items in the cart and order confirmation
Why this extension
Without the plugin
Selling linear products such as fabric, cable, pipe, or timber by the metre presents a challenge that Shopware 6 does not cover out of the box. The standard cart treats each product as a fixed unit, making it impossible for customers to request multiple cuts of different lengths in a single order — without resorting to workarounds like pre-defined product variants that can never cover every possible dimension.
With the plugin
The Cut-by-Metre Cart Manager extension solves this precisely. It adds a custom length-input field to any product page, allowing customers to specify an exact cut length, add it to the cart as a discrete line item, and then repeat the process for additional cuts — all within the same order. Each cut appears as its own entry, with its own quantity, length, and price. The integration feeds directly into Shopware’s stock management system, calculating total consumed length across all cuts so your inventory always reflects reality.
How it would work
- Assign the plugin to a product
In the Shopware 6 administration, open any product and navigate to the Cut-by-Metre tab added by this extension. Enable linear selling, choose the measurement unit (m, cm, or mm), and set minimum and maximum cut lengths. You can also define the price per linear unit if it differs from the base product price.
- Customer selects a cut length
On the storefront product page, the standard quantity selector is replaced by a length-input field. The customer types or adjusts their desired cut length within the permitted range and clicks "Add to Cart". The cut appears as a dedicated line item showing the length and unit clearly.
- Customer adds further cuts
The customer can return to the input field, enter a different length, and add it to the cart again. Each entry is registered as a separate cart position. There is no limit to the number of cuts that can be added in one order, giving B2B buyers full flexibility to build complex cut lists in a single transaction.
- Stock and fulfilment automation
Once the order is placed, the plugin totals all cut lengths for each product and deducts the combined figure from the available stock in Shopware 6. Warehouse staff see each cut as a separate order position, making picking and cutting straightforward without any manual calculation.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ready plugin I can buy?
No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.
Can I use this plugin alongside standard (unit-based) products?
Yes. The cut-by-metre mode is activated on a per-product basis. Products without the feature enabled behave exactly as they do in a standard Shopware 6 store, so you can mix linear and unit-based products freely within the same catalogue.
How is pricing calculated for each cut?
The plugin multiplies the configured price per linear unit by the cut length entered by the customer. Shopware's standard tax, discount, and pricing rules apply on top of this base calculation, so your existing pricing structures — including B2B customer group prices — continue to work as expected.
Does the plugin handle stock correctly when multiple cuts are ordered?
Yes. The extension aggregates the total ordered length across all cut line items for each product and deducts that figure from the available stock in Shopware 6's inventory system, preventing overselling even when a customer orders many cuts of the same product.
Can I set different minimum and maximum cut lengths for different products?
Yes. Minimum and maximum cut lengths are configured individually per product in the administration panel, allowing you to enforce production constraints — for example, a minimum cut of 0.5 m and a maximum of 50 m — on a product-by-product basis.
Which Shopware versions are supported?
We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.
How long does it take?
Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
