Automatically assign products to categories in Shopware 6 using rule-based logic built on tags, properties, attributes, and custom fields.

This is a concept, built for your shop

The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.

In short

  • Eliminate manual category assignments across catalogs of 5,000 products or more
  • Reduce categorization errors that cause products to disappear from navigation and search filters
  • Accelerate product onboarding — new items are categorized automatically the moment they are saved

Why this extension

Without the plugin

Managing a large product catalog in Shopware 6 becomes increasingly difficult as your assortment grows. For fashion retailers, distributors, and multi-brand stores with thousands of SKUs, manually placing each product into the correct category tree is not just tedious — it is a persistent source of errors, inconsistencies, and lost revenue. A misplaced product is effectively invisible to customers browsing by category.

With the plugin

This plugin introduces rule-based automatic product category assignment for Shopware 6. Store administrators define conditions using any combination of tags, product properties, attributes, and custom fields — and the plugin handles assignment automatically, either in real time when a product is saved or on a scheduled batch run across your entire catalog. The result is a consistently structured, always up-to-date category tree that requires no manual intervention.

How it would work

  1. Define Your Rules

Open the rule manager in your Shopware 6 administration panel. Create a new rule, select your conditions from a dropdown of available tags, properties, and custom fields, set the logical operator (AND/OR), and choose the target category. Save the rule — it becomes active immediately.

  2. Automatic Assignment on Save

Whenever a product is created or updated in Shopware 6, the plugin evaluates all active rules against that product's data in the background. Matching products are assigned to the corresponding categories without any additional action from your team.

  3. Bulk Process Your Existing Catalog

For initial setup or after adding a new set of rules, use the built-in bulk processing tool to evaluate all active rules against your entire product catalog. The process runs as a background task via Shopware's message queue, so there is no impact on storefront performance. Progress and results are visible in the administration panel.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ready plugin I can buy?

No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.

How is this different from Shopware's native Dynamic Product Groups?

Shopware 6 Dynamic Product Groups create virtual filtered views of products but do not write actual category assignments to the product record. This plugin performs real category assignments, meaning products appear correctly in the category navigation tree, breadcrumbs, and category-based URLs — which is critical for SEO and structured navigation.

What happens if a product matches more than one rule?

The plugin assigns the product to all matching categories by default. If you need to restrict assignment to a single category, you can use the rule priority system to define which rule takes precedence, and optionally enable exclusive assignment mode for that rule set.

Can I run the bulk assignment on a store with 5,000+ products without affecting performance?

Yes. Bulk processing is handled entirely via Shopware 6's built-in message queue and scheduled task system. The workload is distributed across background workers and does not block storefront requests or administration panel usage during processing.

Can the rules be customized or extended for our specific data model?

Yes. The rule condition engine is built on Shopware 6's extension architecture, allowing developers to register custom condition types for proprietary fields or third-party integration data. Standard property, tag, attribute, and custom field conditions are available out of the box.

Which Shopware versions are supported?

We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.

How long does it take?

Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
