Line Item Custom Data Manager
Attach, store, and display custom data on Shopware 6 cart line items — no custom PHP required. Built-in admin UI, API support, and Rule Builder integration.
The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.
In short
- Eliminate days of custom development by replacing hand-written payload manipulation with a ready-made, tested integration layer
- Reduce order errors by ensuring custom line item data persists reliably from cart creation through to order completion
- Accelerate configurator and personalization projects with pre-built hooks and event listeners that connect to any external system
Why this extension
Without the plugin
Storing custom data on cart line items in Shopware 6 is one of the most common requirements for agencies building product configurators, personalization tools, or complex B2B ordering flows — yet there is no straightforward, officially documented way to do it. Most development teams discover the payload property on CartLineItem only after hours of digging through the framework source code, and then face the additional challenge of surfacing that data in the administration panel and rule engine.
With the plugin
The Line Item Custom Data Manager plugin for Shopware 6 closes that gap entirely. It provides a structured, configuration-driven mechanism for attaching arbitrary custom data to cart line items, persisting it through the entire checkout flow, exposing it via the Sales Channel API, and making it visible in order management — all without writing a single line of custom PHP.
How it would work
- Define Your Data Schema
In the plugin configuration inside the Shopware 6 administration, declare the custom fields you want to attach to line items. Specify a key name, data type (string, integer, JSON object), and whether the field is mandatory. This schema is used for validation at the point of data entry and via the API.
- Attach Data at the Point of Add-to-Cart
Custom data is passed alongside the product when it is added to the cart — either through the Shopware 6 Sales Channel API request body or via a storefront form. The plugin intercepts the LineItemAddedEvent, validates the incoming payload against your schema, and writes the data to the line item's payload property.
- Data Travels Through Checkout Automatically
Once attached, the payload is carried through every step of the checkout process and stored on the final order line item in the database. No additional code is needed to maintain persistence.
- View and Act on the Data
Operations staff can review all custom data fields on individual order line items directly inside the Shopware 6 order detail view. Developers and store managers can also reference payload values inside Rule Builder conditions to drive dynamic pricing, shipping, or promotion logic.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ready plugin I can buy?
No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.
Do I need to write any custom PHP code to use this plugin?
No. The core functionality — attaching data, persisting it through checkout, and displaying it in the administration — works entirely through configuration. Developers who want to integrate an external configurator can use the documented event hooks, but this is optional and straightforward rather than requiring deep framework knowledge.
How is this different from Shopware's native custom fields on products or orders?
Shopware 6 provides custom fields on entities such as products, customers, and orders, but not on individual cart line items at the time of add-to-cart. This plugin specifically targets the line item level, allowing unique per-item data (for example, personalization text or configurator output) to be stored independently for each line item within the same order, even when the same product appears multiple times.
Can the stored payload data be used in the Shopware Rule Builder?
Yes. The plugin registers native Rule Builder conditions that expose your defined payload fields. You can use these conditions to build shipping rules, promotion conditions, or price rules that react to the custom data attached to a line item.
Is the Sales Channel API integration compatible with headless or PWA storefronts?
Yes. The plugin extends the Sales Channel API so that custom payload fields can be passed when adding products via POST requests. This makes it fully compatible with headless Shopware 6 setups, PWA frontends, and any external system that communicates with Shopware over the API.
Which Shopware versions are supported?
We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.
How long does it take?
Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
