Multi-File Media Custom Field
Attach unlimited files to Shopware 6 products using a single custom field. Configure file type restrictions and display sorted attachment lists on product pages.
The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.
In short
- Eliminate field sprawl by replacing multiple single-media fields with one flexible multi-file field
- Save development time on every product template — configure once, attach any number of files without touching code again
- Enforce file type rules per field to prevent incorrect uploads before they occur, reducing manual moderation effort
Why this extension
Without the plugin
Shopware 6 natively supports media custom fields, but limits each field to a single file. When customers need to attach product data sheets, safety certificates, instruction manuals, or any other arbitrary number of documents to a product, developers are forced to create multiple separate media fields and wire each one individually into Twig templates. Adding a new attachment type later means returning to the field configuration, adding another field, and updating the template again — a slow and fragile workflow that does not scale.
With the plugin
This Shopware 6 extension solves the problem at its root. Instead of stacking individual media fields, you get a single multi-file media custom field that accepts an unlimited number of uploads. Files are stored as an array of media IDs inside Shopware’s existing media management system, making them straightforward to render as a clean attachment list on any product detail page. The plugin also lets administrators restrict permitted file types per field using a configurable accept attribute, ensuring that only PDFs, images, or whichever formats your workflow requires can be uploaded — validated before the file ever reaches the server.
How it would work
- Create the custom field
In the Shopware 6 administration panel, navigate to Settings → Custom Fields. Add a new field and select the "Multi-Media" type provided by this plugin. Set a label, choose which entity the field applies to (e.g. products), and optionally define the permitted file types using the accept input.
- Upload and sort files
Open any product (or other assigned entity) in the administration. The multi-media field appears within the custom fields tab. Editors can upload any number of files via the upload button or drag-and-drop, reorder them by dragging, and remove individual files — all without leaving the product edit view.
- Display attachments in the storefront
The field value is stored as an ordered array of Shopware media IDs. Use the provided Twig snippet or your own template logic to iterate over the array, resolve each media entity, and render a download list on the product detail page. No custom database queries required — the data is available through Shopware's standard entity loading.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ready plugin I can buy?
No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.
How is this different from adding multiple standard media custom fields?
Standard media custom fields are limited to one file each. This extension introduces a dedicated multi-file field type that holds an unlimited number of files in a single field, eliminating the need to create, name, and template individual fields for every potential attachment slot.
Can I restrict which file types are allowed per field?
Yes. Each multi-media custom field has its own accept configuration, which you set directly in the custom field editor in the Shopware 6 admin panel. You can allow all types, restrict to images only, PDF only, or specify any combination of MIME types or file extensions.
Will uploaded files appear in the Shopware media library?
Yes. All files uploaded through a multi-media custom field are stored in Shopware's native media management system. They appear in the media library, respect existing folder structures, and can be managed or deleted centrally like any other media asset.
How do I display the attachments on the product detail page?
The field returns an ordered array of media IDs. The plugin includes a Twig example snippet that resolves the IDs to full media entities and renders a download list. Developers can use this snippet as-is or adapt it to match their storefront theme.
Is this plugin suitable for non-developers such as agency clients?
The upload, sorting, and file management interface is built entirely within the Shopware 6 administration panel using native UI components, so merchants and content editors can manage attachments without any technical knowledge. Initial field configuration requires a developer or someone familiar with Shopware custom field sets.
Which Shopware versions are supported?
We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.
How long does it take?
Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
