Packaging & Surcharge Line Items

Display packaging fees, fuel surcharges, and custom levies as separate checkout line items in Shopware 6 — rule-based, clean, and conversion-friendly.

This is a concept, built for your shop

The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.

In short

  • Protect conversion rates by keeping the cart clean — surcharges appear in the order summary, never as cart products
  • Recover handling and packaging costs transparently without surprising customers at checkout
  • Reduce customer support queries by displaying clearly labeled, itemized fees alongside shipping costs

Why this extension

Without the plugin

Many Shopware 6 merchants ship products that require special handling — insulated boxes for perishables, hazardous materials packaging, or oversized freight — and need to recover those costs transparently. The standard toolbox falls short: adding pseudo-products clutters the cart, bundling fees into shipping rates hides the true cost breakdown, and mandatory add-on items confuse customers and hurt conversion rates.

With the plugin

This plugin solves the problem natively. It adds fully configurable surcharge line items — packaging fees, fuel surcharges, environmental levies, or any custom charge — directly to the Shopware 6 order summary, displayed alongside shipping costs, without inserting any product into the customer’s cart. Built on Shopware’s custom line item types and cart collectors, the integration is seamless, transparent, and completely compatible with the standard checkout flow.

How it would work

  1. Define Your Surcharges

In the Shopware 6 Administration, navigate to the plugin settings and create one or more surcharge definitions. Give each surcharge a customer-facing label (e.g., "Insulated Packaging Fee"), choose its calculation method (fixed, percentage, or weight-based), and assign the applicable tax rate.

  2. Assign Rules via Rule Builder

Link each surcharge to one or more Shopware Rule Builder conditions. You can target specific products by ID, entire categories, or any rule combination the Rule Builder supports — customer group, delivery address, cart total, and more. Multiple rules can trigger the same surcharge simultaneously.

  3. Automatic Application at Checkout

When a matching product enters the cart, the plugin's cart collector automatically injects the surcharge as a custom line item into the order summary. The customer sees a clearly labeled fee positioned alongside shipping costs — no cart product, no confusion, no conversion impact.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ready plugin I can buy?

No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.

Will the surcharge appear as a product in the customer's cart?

No. The plugin uses Shopware 6's native custom line item types and cart collectors, so surcharges are injected directly into the order summary as fee positions — completely separate from the product line items in the cart. Customers see a clean, uncluttered shopping cart.

Can I charge different fees for different products or categories?

Yes. Each surcharge definition is linked to one or more Rule Builder conditions. You can define a fee specifically for refrigerated products, another for oversized items, and another for hazardous goods — all managed independently from the plugin's admin interface.

Does the surcharge appear on invoices and order documents?

Yes. Because surcharges are registered as proper line items within Shopware's order data model, they appear as separate positions on all generated order documents, including invoices and delivery notes.

Can the surcharge amount vary based on cart weight or quantity?

Yes. In addition to flat-fee and percentage modes, the plugin supports dynamic calculation based on total cart weight or total item quantity, making it suitable for scenarios like per-kilogram cooling surcharges or per-unit handling fees.

Which Shopware versions are supported?

We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.

How long does it take?

Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
