Short Search Term
Enable 1- and 2-character search queries in Shopware 6 without Elasticsearch. Find short product codes and alphanumeric series names instantly.
The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.
In short
- Recover lost sales caused by unfound short-code products — customers get results instead of empty pages
- Support alphanumeric product series (e.g. "FD 33", "HD 33") that were previously invisible to the built-in search
- Deploy without Elasticsearch — reduce infrastructure costs and operational complexity for smaller shops
Why this extension
Without the plugin
By default, Shopware 6 ignores search queries shorter than three characters, which causes a silent but serious problem for many online shops. Products identified by short alphanumeric codes — such as "FD 33", "HD 33", or "1 a" — simply return no results, leaving customers frustrated and potentially driving them to a competitor. The issue is particularly acute for industrial suppliers, spare parts dealers, and manufacturers whose entire product catalogue relies on compact series codes.
With the plugin
This extension removes that limitation by routing short search queries directly through optimised database queries, bypassing the minimum keyword length restriction entirely — no Elasticsearch deployment required. Configurable thresholds and intelligent result filtering ensure that enabling short-term search does not flood customers with irrelevant hits, giving you precise control over search behaviour in your Shopware 6 store.
How it would work
- Install and Configure
After installation, open the plugin settings in your Shopware 6 administration panel. Set the minimum search term length you want to support — typically 1 or 2 characters — and enable intelligent filtering to define how broadly short queries should match.
- Short Queries Are Intercepted
When a customer enters a search term shorter than Shopware's built-in threshold, the plugin intercepts the request before it reaches the standard search index. It routes the query through its own optimised database lookup, which has no minimum character restriction.
- Filtered Results Are Returned
The plugin applies configurable relevance filters to the raw database results, removing entries where the short term appears only incidentally (for example, as part of a long description). The customer sees a clean, relevant results page — identical in appearance to a standard Shopware 6 search result.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ready plugin I can buy?
No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.
Do I need Elasticsearch to use this plugin?
No. The plugin is specifically designed to work with Shopware 6's standard MySQL-based search, so no additional infrastructure is required. It also integrates with Elasticsearch if you already have it running, but it is not a dependency.
Will enabling 1-character search return too many irrelevant results?
The plugin includes configurable result filtering that suppresses matches where the short term appears only coincidentally in unrelated content. You can tune the minimum length and filter sensitivity in the admin panel to match your specific catalogue structure.
Will this plugin affect the performance of my shop's search?
The database queries used for short-term lookups are optimised for performance and only execute when a query falls below the standard Shopware 6 threshold. For normal-length searches, the standard search pipeline is used unchanged, so there is no performance impact on the majority of queries.
Can I customise which fields are searched for short terms?
Yes. The plugin settings allow you to specify which product fields — such as product number, name, or custom attributes — are included in the short-term search query, giving you full control over result relevance.
Which Shopware versions are supported?
We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.
How long does it take?
Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.
