Volumetric Shipping Calculator

Calculate shipping costs by L/W/H dimensions and weight in Shopware 6. Supports DHL, UPS, multi-country price matrices, and automatic parcel splitting.

This is a concept, built for your shop

The description shows what such a plugin can do. We tailor the scope to your shop after a short needs analysis and usually deliver within a few days.

In short

  • Charge accurate shipping costs by combining dimensional weight and physical weight — eliminating under-priced shipments that erode margins
  • Support every destination country with its own carrier price matrix, removing the need for manual rate lookups or separate workarounds per market
  • Automatically split orders into the correct number of parcels based on maximum box dimensions, so customers are never quoted a single-parcel rate for a multi-parcel order

Why this extension

Without the plugin

Standard shipping cost calculation in Shopware 6 relies on weight alone — but for international e-commerce, that is rarely enough. Carriers such as DHL and UPS apply dimensional weight rules, country-specific girth requirements, and complex price matrices that change depending on the destination. Without a dedicated solution, store operators are left manually approximating costs or maintaining fragile workarounds that break the moment a customer orders more than one item.

With the plugin

The Goodday Volumetric Shipping Calculator extension solves this at the source. It integrates directly with Shopware 6 product fields to read length, width, and height data — whether entered manually or imported from an ERP system — and uses those values to calculate accurate shipping costs across multiple carriers, price matrices, and destination countries. It also handles automatic parcel splitting, so two large items are never incorrectly priced as a single shipment.

How it would work

  1. Configure Your Box Presets

In the Shopware Administration, define the maximum dimensions and weight capacity of each box type you ship with. These presets are used by the parcel-splitting engine to determine how many boxes are required for any given order.

  2. Set Up Carrier Price Matrices

Create one or more price matrices per carrier. Assign each matrix to a destination country or group of countries. Each matrix row maps a combination of dimensional weight and physical weight to a shipping rate, mirroring the exact pricing logic your carrier uses.

  3. Assign Dimensions to Products

Enter L/W/H values directly in the Shopware 6 product editor, or import them in bulk from your ERP system using the native import/export interface. The plugin reads these values automatically at checkout — no additional configuration per product is required.

  4. Automatic Calculation at Checkout

When a customer reaches checkout, the plugin aggregates the dimensions and weight of all items in the cart, calculates the required number of parcels, applies the relevant country and carrier matrix, and presents the correct shipping cost — entirely automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a ready plugin I can buy?

No – it is a concept. We build it for your shop after a short needs analysis. Prices start at €100 and you get a fixed quote before we start.

Does this work with multi-item orders containing different product sizes?

Yes. The plugin aggregates the total volume and weight of all cart items, then uses your configured box presets to determine the optimal number of parcels. Mixed-size orders are split correctly, and the shipping cost reflects the full number of boxes required.

Can I configure different price matrices for different carriers and countries?

Yes. You can create an unlimited number of price matrices, each assigned to a specific carrier and destination country or region. This means DHL Switzerland, UPS Germany, and any other carrier-country combination can each have its own rate logic.

Does the plugin support girth-based shipping requirements?

Yes. Carriers such as DHL require a girth measurement (calculated from package dimensions) for certain destination countries. The plugin calculates girth automatically and can include it as a condition within the relevant price matrix.

How is dimensional data imported from an ERP system?

The plugin maps L/W/H values to native Shopware 6 product custom fields. You can populate these fields using Shopware's built-in import/export module or any ERP integration that writes to the Shopware API. No additional middleware is required.

Which Shopware versions are supported?

We build it for the version your shop runs: 6.5, 6.6 or 6.7. Updates for new Shopware versions are included as long as we stay in active contact.

How long does it take?

Usually 5–10 business days after the needs analysis, depending on the agreed scope.

All features

  • Per-product length, width, and height fields integrated natively into the Shopware 6 product data model
  • Combined dimensional weight and physical weight calculation at checkout – the higher value is used to determine the applicable rate
  • Automatic parcel splitting based on configurable maximum box dimensions; orders spanning multiple parcels are priced correctly
  • Girth calculation support for carriers that require it (e.g., DHL for specific countries)
  • Unlimited price matrices per carrier (DHL, UPS, and others) configurable per destination country or region
  • Matrix rows defined by dimension thresholds, weight ranges, or a combination of both
  • Shipping method availability rules – automatically hide a method when dimensional or weight limits are exceeded
  • ERP import support for dimensional data via Shopware 6 custom product fields and the native import/export module
  • Shopware Administration UI for managing box presets, carrier matrices, and country-specific rules without developer access
  • Compatible with Shopware 6 rules engine for additional shipping condition logic
